Distributed Symmetry Breaking on Power Graphs via Sparsification
In this paper, we present efficient distributed algorithms for classical
symmetry breaking problems, maximal independent sets (MIS) and ruling sets, in
power graphs. We work in the standard CONGEST model of distributed message
passing, where the communication network is abstracted as a graph .
Typically, the problem instance in CONGEST is identical to the communication
network , that is, we perform the symmetry breaking in . In this work, we
consider a setting where the problem instance corresponds to a power graph
, where each node of the communication network is connected to all of
its -hop neighbors. Our main contribution is a deterministic polylogarithmic
time algorithm for computing -ruling sets of , which (for )
improves exponentially on the current state-of-the-art runtimes. The main
technical ingredient for this result is a deterministic sparsification
procedure which may be of independent interest. On top of being a natural
family of problems, ruling sets (in power graphs) are well-motivated through
their applications in the powerful shattering framework [BEPS JACM'16, Ghaffari
SODA'19] (and others). We present randomized algorithms for computing maximal
independent sets and ruling sets of in essentially the same time as they
can be computed in . We also revisit the shattering algorithm for MIS [BEPS
JACM'16] and present different approaches for the post-shattering phase. Our
solutions are algorithmically and analytically simpler (also in the LOCAL
model) than existing solutions and obtain the same runtime as [Ghaffari
SODA'16]
Taloushallinnon ohjelman käyttökokemukset Tilitoimisto Nimettömässä
Taloushallinnon ohjelmien käyttäminen on tärkeä osa nykyaikaista kirjanpitoa. Tilitoimistojen pitää valita laajasta valikoimasta taloushallinnon ohjelmia niille itselleen ja asiakkailleen parhaiten sopivat ohjelmat. Ohjelmien käyttäminen ei kuitenkaan ole ongelmatonta.
Tämän tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli selvittää Tilitoimisto Nimettömän työntekijöiden taloushallinnon ohjelmien käyttökokemuksia. Tutkimuksella pyrittiin löytämään on-gelmakohdat ohjelmien käytössä, jotta niihin voidaan etsiä ratkaisuja. Tutkimuksessa käsitellään pääasiassa talous- ja kiinteistöhallinnan pilvipalvelua Visma Fivaldia.
Teoriaosuudessa käydään läpi kirjanpidon perusasioita kirjallisuuden avulla ja tutustutaan nykyaikaiseen sähköiseen taloushallintoon. Yleisymmärrys aiheesta antaa loistavan pohjan tulkita empiirisen osuuden tuloksia.
Empiirinen osuus toteutettiin kvalitatiivisena tutkimuksena. Empiirisessä osuudessa tutkittiin Tilitoimisto Nimettömän työntekijöiden Visma Fivaldin käyttökokemuksia. Laadullista tutkimusta tuettiin tekemällä verkkokysely avoimilla kysymyksillä Tilitoimisto Nimettömän työntekijöille.
Tutkimuksessa havaittiin joitain puutteita kirjanpito-ohjelmassa. Myös Tilitoimisto Nimettömän työntekijöiden ohjelman käytön osaamisessa havaittiin jonkin verran puutteita.Using financial reporting software is an important part of modern accounting. Accounting firms have to choose from a wide selection of financial reporting software the program that best suits themselves and their clients. However, the use of software can sometimes be problematic.
The objective of this study is to gather information about the experiences the employees of Accounting Firm Anonymous have in using different financial reporting software. The study aims at investigating the problems with using the software in order to find solutions to them. The study focuses mainly on the Visma Fivaldi cloud-based financial reporting and property management software.
The theoretical part of the study discusses the basics of accounting as presented in the literature and reviews modern electronic financial reporting. A general understanding of the topic provides an excellent ground for the interpretation of the results of the empirical part of the study. Next, the case study takes a closer look at Visma Fivaldi and its features. This gives us a good idea of what good financial reporting software should offer.
The empirical part was conducted as a qualitative study. The experiences of the employees of Accounting Firm Anonymous in using Visma Fivaldi were studied. In support of the qualitative study, an online survey with open-ended questions was conducted among the employees of Accounting Firm Anonymous.
The study revealed some deficiencies in the software itself. The Accounting Firm’s employees’ skills in using it were also found somewhat insufficient
